Space standards in the UK: the future

As already highlighted by Trevor, space standards play an integral role in our quality of life. The HCA open consultation has thrown up some interesting insight into housing design quality standards. Now we would like to take the debate further.

In the past space standards have been defined by specifically selected statistics with limited relevance in the UK context. Following a report by the NHBC, using English House Condition Survey data, and the HCA consultation, it is clear a holistic approach is needed. This will take into account homebuyers’ values as well as numerical measurements.

By challenging the core assumptions around space standards and highlighting the inconsistencies in the way space is measured, we hope to revolutionise the way space is perceived and achieve a better deal for homebuyers in the UK.

Over the next few weeks we will be examining different variables in the measurement of space standards. Please join in by commenting below.
